Step aboard the Mount Hood Railroad for an authentic Polar Express™ Train Ride that brings Chris Van Allsburg’s beloved story to life in the heart of Hood River. From the moment you arrive at the decorated depot, you’ll feel the magic of Christmas come alive through music, lights, and characters straight from the book. Your conductor welcomes pajama-clad passengers with a cheery “All aboard!” as the steam train sets out on a 90-minute journey to the North Pole. Chefs dance down the aisles serving hot chocolate and freshly baked cookies while the story of *The Polar Express* is read aloud. Through the windows, watch the forest glow with twinkling lights until the train pulls into Santa’s village where the jolly man himself climbs aboard to greet every child and present them with the First Gift of Christmas — a silver bell from his sleigh. On the return trip, sing carols with elves and characters as the train fills with laughter and holiday spirit. Families can choose from Standard, Parlor, Premium, or VIP seating with souvenir mugs and tumblers included in higher tiers. It’s a beloved tradition for locals and visitors alike — a chance to relive childhood wonder and share a truly magical Christmas journey together in the shadow of Mount Hood.

Itinerary

Arrive 45-60 Minutes Early → Check in at the Hood River Depot for live pre-show music and photo ops. Boarding → Conductor calls “All Aboard!” and passengers find their assigned seats. North Pole Bound → Enjoy storytelling, hot cocoa and cookies served by chefs. Santa Boards → Meet Santa and receive the First Gift of Christmas. Return Journey → Sing carols with elves on the ride back to Hood River.
