Description
Each winter, the Potomac Eagle Scenic Railroad transforms into the North Pole Express, inviting guests to experience the magic of Christmas on rails. The adventure begins at the station, where families explore the Event Barn—writing letters to Santa, visiting the nativity, and enjoying hot cocoa and photo ops. Soon the whistle blows and passengers board vintage 1920s coaches trimmed in garlands and lights. As the train chugs north, Mrs. Claus’ helpers serve milk and cookies while storytellers share a tale of Christmas spirit. Caroling fills the cars as anticipation builds—until the moment the train reaches the North Pole and Santa himself steps aboard, greeting every child with a smile and a small gift. The 75-minute journey is immersive, heartwarming, and steeped in nostalgia. After returning to the station, families can visit the gift shop for souvenirs or roast s’mores by the outdoor firepits. The Standard Coach class offers cushioned bench seating with limited heating, so dress warmly for comfort. It’s a beloved tradition for families across West Virginia and beyond—an unforgettable way to relive childhood wonder and create new memories together.
